Are our hierarchical relationships condemned to abuse of power?
The Silence of the Chameleons is rooted in the history of a regional theater company. Joachim, Victor and Marie, students who have become employees, are faced with the death of their director and the unexpected announcement by Marie, who had been approached to take over the direction, that she will not do so.
The Silence of the Chameleons responds to an absolute necessity to take stock of the place of the artist in our contemporary Western societies. It questions the social role of artists, the responsibility of taking a stand, and our relationship to the sickly fear of losing everything.
The play brings to light an all too common situation of abuse of hierarchy and thus reveals a malaise in the relationship between the dominant and the dominated.
